For an assignment in my photo studio class, we needed to shoot something that shows texture and shadow.

I chose my pair of yellow corduroy vans. I thought I could achieve the dramatic shadows and texture from the ridges in the fabric.

We had to use a minimum of one light, however I felt that wasn't enough. So I used a small soft box at table level to the left of the shoes. As well as a hard light with blue gels to use as fill on the right side of the shoes. I also chose to use a black background for simplicity and a more dramatic effect.

I am very happy with the way these two photos turned out. I think the blue fill light adds another element to the photo as well as showing more dramatic shadows and texture.
